  1. I thought that chapter 4 was very helpful. I am horrible and such a newb when it comes to technology and the overall explaining of how to use certain technology and when it is the most effective is very helpful for myself as a teacher. I especially like the end of the chapter summaries of different topics like Digital Media Corner, Apps Corner, Software Corner, etc. The overall chapter is something as a teacher I will need to know because it helps bring new ideas with technology advancements into the classroom and how to use certain advancements, which is something that applies to me. I think when they talk about smart boards and multimedia advancements is something that all teachers can use no matter what subject. Smart boards are becoming very popular right now and can be used for almost anything that will get students to interact in the classroom/during lessons.

  2. Chapter 4 was interesting to me. It was interesting and helpful. I do not do well but technology what so ever. I have the worst luck when it comes to technology. I am going to have to deal with technology every single day when I officially become a teacher so I am going to have to get use to the idea of at times I am going to struggle with technology but I know there are ways out there to help me learn how to better use it. In chapter 4, there were many recommendations that helps get an idea of different softwares and apps. In the future, I know there will be bigger and better things to use in a classroom and easier for teachers to get used to. Not only will it help the teacher but students too.

  3. While reading chapter 4, I found a lot of the information really interesting. I think that as future educators using technology in our classrooms, it is important for us to read things like these. My favorite part of the article was learning about input and output and the different devices associated with each. Input is what you put into something, and input devices include: keyboards, scanners, pointing devices, cameras, smartphones, etc. Output means data that has been processed into a useful form called information and it includes: printers, projectors, fax machines, speakers, headphones, etc. I found this chapter very informational and useful for the future!

  4. Chapter 4's reading was a lot of what I already know. We are in the technological era and applying it in class is going to become more common as the years pass. I have been involved with technology since i was a kid so a lot of the information was stuff I already knew. The thing I found most interesting was the apps and software it recommended because I haven't used all of them. The smart boards are one of the things I hope my school has when I teach in them, because of all the things you can do with it for lectures. You can make the class extremely interactive to keep students focused and listening.

  5. I enjoyed reaching Chapter 4 because I think the topic of the technology is extremely useful and relevant to our society. I have grown up with the basic technology (such as computers, cell phones, printers, projectors, etc) but now we are in the full force of the technology era. I personally only use the basic apps or modern day technologies but I really want to branch out into different apps (even though its hard for me) so I can better prepare my students. The one technology I am most excited about would be smart boards. When I was in high school when my school got them for the first time I was really excited. The smart boards kept me interested and involved in what my teacher was teaching. I remember back in the day when we used to use the white boards and dry erase markers which I thought was super fun--smart boards are this generations "white boards" Fun and interactive. They are also very versatile so that would allow 99% of teachers in all different content areas to be able to use them.

  6. Chapter 4 was very informative and and made interesting point about technology in the classroom. It seems to be a constant reoccurring discussion though and many articles share the same information. This kind of reminds me though of how important the technology will be as an educator. The piece of technology i hope to have in the classroom and what chapter 4 talks about a little bit is the smart board. It can do so much while being able to hook it up to your computer as a teacher. It will make your lectures more informative and specific, as well as keep the students anxious to learn through seeing different things rather than notes on a chalkboard. Video is a large part of my lesson plan i will use as a teacher and smart boards make it possible.

  7. After reading Chapter 4 and thinking about the Technology Era we're all headed in I want to comment on Smart Boards and the role I think they can play as technology continues to improve. I've been in a classroom with a Smart Board since 5th grade so I'm pretty accustomed to how they work. They do make teaching a lot easier for the teacher but after a few years of having a Smart Board in the classroom the excitement of having one went away and It just felt like any old thing. I don't think students pay more attention or are more engaged just because we have a machine reading off power points instead of writing them on a chalk or dry erase board. I do however think we can get them more engaged by way of smart boards. I had a class in high school that integrated cell phones into the lesson by way of comments or taking polls. It was anonymous so nobody had the fear of sounding stupid and with cell phones becoming so important to all of us I think this could be a big step forward in how teachers teach and how teachers can keep students engaged.

  8. I personally know nothing about technology, especially computers, and how they work so reading Chapter 4 was very helpful to give me a basic understanding of how things work. Before I read the chapter I like to skim through it and I enjoyed seeing how much technology has changed since the book was published, so I’m sure how things work is even more confusing now. The fact that it broke down how things work and what they work best for is great as a future educator so I can select the best technology to use for my lesson that day. The one technology that I plan on using the most in my classroom is projectors and smartboards. I feel like these two options work best with all kinds of learning styles inside of the classroom.

  9. After reviewing chapter 4, over the wave of new and updating technology, my first reaction is how crazy it is that I already know a lot of the information being put forth by the chapter. Although I use a smartphone, play video games, and use a laptop, I never thought I'd have a wealth of "technical" terms stored in my brain already! That always seemed to be the kinda of thing that only someone who was a developer or who built their own custom computers would know. Just after playing the PS4 you see so many of our vocabulary being put to use; the game controller has buttons, joysticks, a track pad, and input areas. The system has usb ports, disc drives, and uses hdmi as well. The controllers use motion control at times, which makes typing on the system easier, but keyboard attachments are available as well. All stuff that I wouldn't normally think twice about.

  10. Chapter 4 was filled with useful information that as a future teacher will be very beneficial. I am personally not the most tech-savvy person out there, however, I am now very aware of just how important a role technology plays in the classroom. Chapter 4 helped me to understand different ways to incorporate different types of technology and when it is best to use them in the classroom. I liked how this chapter helped to explain how to use certain aspects of technology. The different programs/apps they suggested seemed very interesting and could possibly be very helpful in my future classroom. I am personally really looking forward to using smart boards in my classroom. I never had smart boards in my high school, however, in the schools that I have observed this year, they have all had them. I have been able to see just how useful smart boards can be and how beneficial they are to the students.

  11. I also enjoyed chapter 4 along with the rest of the class. I proudly would take the title for the student who's the worst with technology. I have never been good at it and struggle a ton. So this chapter was very intriguing to me and surprising. I guess i did know more than i thought about technology, such as inputs and outputs, and the titles of technology. I think that sometimes we all say we stink at technology, without realizing we do know a lot. Or maybe I am realizing that! I know if i use tech in my classroom, I will make sure my students feel confident about it!

  12. Chapter 4 taught me that there is a whole lot about technology that I did not know. There were a lot of things in this chapter that I know the name of, but didn't really have the definition or explanation of until reading this, such as the control unit, system clock, and the motherboard (these are just a few). I can see the importance of being knowledgeable about hardware and being able to teach it to students. I find this chapter to be useful in teaching what we need to know! I could see myself having my students use USB drives in class if we work on a project and they need to finish at home. I could also see myself using CDs or DVDs to export a video that students make for my class onto.

  13. After reading this chapter I saw some things I definitely have heard before or had some understanding. With every classroom having a computer these are things every teacher should understand. I have had a very brief experience with technology such as gaming or learning tricks on the computer from my friends so I still feel somewhat knowledgeable after reading chapter 4, but it also explained a lot of new technology and ways to use it that I hadn't known or thought of. I didn't enjoy classrooms that used too much technology but I am looking forward to utilizing things such as the smartboard or the clicker quizzes. The information provided in the chapter is necessary for a teacher to understand and utilize not only in methods of teaching but being able to aid kids in their use of the technology as well.

  14. I found chapter four as a bit of a refresher to me. I would like to think I am pretty tech savvy. Whenever there is a problem with technology, I am always the first to get a call from members of my family saying "how do i do this" or "where do you go...". I liked how they touched on the necessity of practicing to get better at computer skills. It definitely took me tries after tries to figure out some things on my Mac, it didn't just come natural to me. That's why I think technology is important in the classroom, especially at a young age. With this new dependency on it, it is really important to incorporate it into the classroom. People like my grandma are still struggling with technology because they were not raised with it.

  15. After reading Chapter 4, I thought a lot about what I read, and how I can apply it to my own future classroom. It was very helpful to me. I am definitely not the person people come to when they have questions about technology. It definitely the other way around. This chapter did provide some information that I did know, like the physical aspect of the computer. This chapter didn’t only provide information that I can use in the classroom, but in my day to day life. Not a day has passed in the last few years where I haven’t used a computer or some form of technology. This chapter was good for technology beginners like myself. It provided a lot of the basic technological information that most people over look, but it very important.

  16. Chapter 4 was stuff that I have known before and helped refresh my memory a bit. Since there are laptops and/or desktops in many classroom settings now-a-days, I feel as if it is extremely important that each teacher as a grasp on what they are doing. It all falls on the teacher if they don't while having their students use such technology to do research or anything else. Fortunately, the basic fundamentals on laptops, such as a Mac, came very easy to me. Also, owning an iPhone is pretty self explanatory (at least I think so). I had an iPod touch back in middle school, so that helped me navigate through my iPhone pretty quickly. In school, we used Mac, so when I got my laptop for college, everything was a no brainer for me. I like being someone that people who aren't so techy, can come to me if they need any help.

  17. Chapter 4 had some good points that I've never really thought about before. I'm honestly not necessarily good with technology but if I do it a few times, i tend to get the hang of it. Obviously technology is going to be a part of my everyday life so becoming more technology literate is one of the most important things I can do to prepare myself for the future and hopefully prepare my students for the ever changing future. In the case of technology practice really does make perfect and I think I can get to become a pretty tech savvy person with practice.

  18. Chapter 4 was pretty straightforward because it was basically a broader explanation of things that most of us probably already know. One thing I found interesting was the smart board section, or the “Interactive Whiteboard” (IWB) section. My high school, though rated one of the best in the Dayton area, did not allow all teachers to have access to smart boards. It was mainly reserved for math and science teachers who had been there long enough to earn one. I would like to teach in a school district that allows most, if not all teachers to have a smart board because there are so many uses for them in every subject and at every age level. Especially with the combination of every student having an ipad, a teacher can link the two together for a more interesting, fun, and hands on learning experience. As for the student, being able to have more of a relevant learning experience through technology, in theory, will increase productivity as well as results on paper (or on the screen).

  19. While reading chapter four I realized I know more about technology than I thought. Becoming a teacher I feel like I’m going to have to incorporate technology into my everyday life more than it already is now. I think that I can get the hang of most applications and websites after playing around for a little bit. As teachers we need to be able to keep up with the advances in technology in order to help our students succeed as best as they can.

  20. After I read chapter 4,I came out of it feeling that this was very direct to me as a future teacher. Technology is already a part of my everyday life and I know I will have to have more in my day when I am instructing a class. This is also outside of school technology that I will have to utilize for students. Practice makes perfect is the best way to increase my abilities, along with every teacher. Working with a smart board or a specific grading website with repetition will surely make me more prepared for teaching.
